Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a specialised, hands-on treatment that releases restrictions within the fascial network (connective tissue). It enables stuck, hardened and dehydrated areas to become pliable, soft, mobile and hydrated.

Fascia is a fibrous network of collagen and elastin fibres surrounded by a fluid called ground substance. This ground substance works as the body’s shock absorber. In its normal, healthy state, fascia is relaxed and has the ability to stretch and move. If the body experiences trauma – whether it is physical or emotional, the fascia will lose its pliability and become hard, dehydrated and stuck.

The fascias response to stress in an area is by laying down extra fibres, creating thickening and adhesions both through and between muscles. This then leads to restrictions, limitation of movement and poor tissue health.

It is thought that an extremely high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems. However, most go undiagnosed as these myofascial restrictions are not identified by many of the standard tests (X-rays, CAT scans etc).

Each treatment is performed directly onto the skin without oils. The client may or may not feel much happening, but will feel ‘freer’ or ‘lighter’ after the treatment.

Myofascial release can also increase energy, increase breathing capacity, restore muscle function and improve postural alignment. It relieves physical and emotional strain, helps balance the body and promote self healing and relaxation.
